SEPTEMBER 2025 REGISTRATION OPEN FOR ALL PROGRAMS.

OCTOBER 2025 - MARCH 2026 REGISTRATION OPEN AUGUST 22, 2025

Junior Academy

What is Junior Academy?

Junior Academy is PGFSC’s learn-to-figure skate program, designed to give skaters a strong foundation for long-term success in the sport of figure skating.

Our very own coaches have developed a curriculum that balances skill development, creativity, and fun. Skaters will work on:

  • Basic skating skills

  • Turns and transitions

  • Performance and presentation

  • Jumps and spins

  • Field movements

  • And much more!

What to Expect in a Session

  1. Warm-up: Skaters begin with several minutes of basic skating skills.

  2. Instruction: Coaches lead focused lessons tailored to skill level.

  3. Creative/Free Time: An opportunity to explore and enjoy skating in a fun, supportive environment.

✨ At the end of every session, skaters are invited to perform a bow or curtsy to their “audience.” Families and friends—this is your chance to cheer and applaud their hard work!

Junior Academy Guidelines & Expectations

Off-Ice Training

Off-ice training is a vital part of the Junior Academy curriculum. Skaters will:

  • Train flexibility

  • Learn and strengthen skating positions

  • Practice motor/movement skills and patterns

The off-ice portion of the program is not optional. Please ensure your skater attends.

Clothing & Equipment

To help coaches properly assess technique and support safe skating:

  • Clothing: Tight-fitting athletic wear or skating dresses are required. Bulky, baggy clothing, hooded jackets, sweatshirts, and jeans are not acceptable.

  • Hair: Hair and bangs should be tied back and kept off the face.

  • Skates: Must have strong ankle support and good toe picks. Please purchase through a proper skate shop such as Koops Bike & Skate Shop or North Edge Ice Sports (Prince George).

  • Laces: Do not wrap skate laces around the ankle.

Viewing the Session

  • Parents/caregivers are invited to view skating sessions from the bleachers.

  • For safety reasons, please do not view from the player’s benches/boxes.

  • At this time, off-ice training sessions are closed to spectators, as space is limited and distractions can impact both the instructor and skaters.

Off-Season Skating

PGFSC offers skating opportunities year-round:

  • Fall: September

  • Winter: October–March

  • Spring: April–May

  • Summer: July–August

Schedules vary depending on ice allocation from the City of Prince George.

For the best development and progress, PGFSC encourages participation in all seasons.

Competitions & Jamboree Events

Junior Academy skaters are eligible to participate in local jamborees and competitions.

  • Coaching fees at events are billed privately.

  • For out-of-town events, skaters share in a portion of coach expense fees.

  • Please reach out if you would like more details.

Coaches

Junior Academy is taught by our team of certified PGFSC coaches.
Learn more about our staff under the “About Us” tab.

Private Lessons

At times, certain sessions may be run exclusively through private lessons.

  • Coaches will provide invoices directly for private lessons, payable to the coach.

  • At the next level (STAR 1/2), private lessons become a regular part of the curriculum.

Please ask if you’d like more information about how private lessons work!
